As Good As New (with Patrizia Laquidara)
The collaboration between Patrizia and me was born two years ago, on the phone. I was in the USA for a recording session (see under 'Morton Feldman Dances'...), and Patrizia wanted to bring something very personal to the Songwriters' Festival in Recanati, Italy: it was a nursery rhyme that she had learned from her grandmother when she was a child.

In this way, with a lullaby sung over the phone from Italy, an unpredictable and playful artistic association between two friends got going.

We started with a collection of Venetian songs, mainly from the last two centuries, or even lost in the mists of time, and some anonymous poetic texts beside those by an eminent fellow countryman, Luigi Meneghello. I composed the new music over the old songs, with the gull's calls imitated by a chisel scraping the piano string, or with Lennie Tristano's ostinatos snaking here and there... everything that my musical baggage suggested to me.

Patrizia powerfully lights up each word with her voice. And together we joke, move, talk, become again new children of the past, in a certain way...

At the MantovaMusicaFestival, at the 'Etnica' Festival (Tivoli), at the 'Rosa d'Autore' Festival (Milan), at the Songwriters' Festival (Recanati), for the Centro d'Arte of the University of Padua, in the season of Amici della Musica in Vicenza, in a live broadcast from RadioCittaFutura (Rome)...
